ABB Robotics Expands IRB 360 FlexPicker Line

April 19, 2020

Robots are being used in various industries on a large scale these days. The availability of sophisticated robots and their economical pricing have made these robots even more attractive for companies.

Expanding its Delta robot portfolio, ABB Robotics has added an 8 kg model to its IRB 360 FlexPicker line. These robots are in addition to the 1 kg and 3 kg models the company already has in the market.

The FlexPicker is ideal for companies in the picking and packing industry. According to the company, this technology provides handling abilities with hard automation. Expectedly, the 8 kg model can take on higher payloads with enhanced performance.

Apart from its ability to pick up more weight, this 8 Kg model comes with a carbon fiber arm-set, a new delta plate designed to handle larger weights and inertias, and improved motion tuning. The upgrade also includes a hygienic design for wash down applications and improved conveyor tracking performance.

The company has reportedly invested decades into the research and development of IRB 360 industrial robots. The company has already deployed more than 6000 delta robots all over the world, and they are known for increased speed, higher payloads and smaller footprints.

“The 8 kg FlexPicker provides a robust solution for handling larger individual products, and, in multi-product pick applications, more products can be handled per cycle,” said Rick Tallian, consumer products segment manager, ABB Robotics, North America. “This new model will provide our customers a wider range of high speed picking robots and improve the overall productivity of the robotic system. The IRB 360 8 kg version has the ability to handle up to 500 products per minute.”

Recently, the company introduced its new GateFramer robotic car body framing system. This system has the ability to frame various models on the same line and maintain shorter cycle times.
